May 2009
Espíritu de Chile Gran Reserva wines were once again awarded at important wine competitions: Gran Reserva Carmenére vintage 2006 was honoured with a bronze medal at Great Britain’s “International Wine Challenge 2009” and Cabernet Sauvignon vintage 2006 was awarded a bronze medal at the “Challenge International du Vin” in Bordeaux.
With these new accolades, the Espíritu de Chile Gran Reserva wines were able to continue a series of awards recently achieved at important wine competitions. The awards for the current vintages prove the high consistency in quality and taste, thanks to a dedicated wine making team under Chief Winemaker Jon Usabiaga.
The dark-red Carmenère impresses with fine aromas of blueberries and spices which combine perfectly with a finishing touch of coffee, mocha and vanilla from the oak ageing in French barrels. The rich, dark-red Cabernet Sauvignon captivates with aromas of blackcurrants, wild berries and elderberries. Both wines originate from the Curico Valley.
The International Wine Challenge (IWC) is acknowledged as one of the world’s most prestigious and influential wine competitions. The 26th IWC saw more than 9,500 entries which came from a record 41 countries. Up to 1,500 wines were assessed daily. The results of the competition were unveiled to the wine trade at the London Wine Trade Fair from May 12th-14th.
The Challenge International du Vin represents the biggest French wine competition on international level. With almost 30 years of existence the challenge is the oldest international competition in France. Every second year more than 30 countries are represented and roughly 5,000 samples tasted. The medals of the Challenge International du Vin are globally recognized and highly valued.
