Espíritu de Chile once again proved its high quality at a renowned wine competition. At the Annual Wines of Chile Awards, the 2008 Classic Carmenère was awarded a silver medal which required a rating of 87-90 points.
The dark-red Espíritu de Chile Carmenère impressed the jury with its intense aromas of berries and a touch of vanilla. The wine is rich and full bodied with fine, smooth tannins. On the finish there is some spice and espresso.
The 6th Annual Wines of Chile Awards competition ended on January, 15th in Santiago de Chile with the result that Chile makes extremely good quality wines at every price point. The judges rated 446 wines on a 100-point scale in two price ranges and came back impressed. A full 62% earned medals: 40 gold (91+ points), 96 silver (87-90 points), and 141 bronze (84-86 points). The panelists were particularly impressed by the fruity balance and finesse in the Carmenère.
The judges for the 6th Annual Wines of Chile Awards were Kevin Zraly (Windows on the World), Robert Bradshaw (Banyan Consulting), Sandy Block (Legal Sea Foods), Robin Kelley O’Connor (Sherry-Lehmann), Josh Raynolds (International Wine Center), Michael Schachner (Wine Enthusiast), David Rosengarten (Rosengarten Report), Linda Murphy (Decanter and the San Francisco Chronicle), and Patrick Comiskey (Wine & Spirits).
‘Wines of Chile’ is a promotional body that represents 90 Chilean wineries with offices in Santiago and London.
