In a repeat of last year's success, wines of the ESPIRITU DE CHILE range were honored with awards at the large international wine valuation „Vienna International Wine Challenge“: one gold medal and six silver medals attest to the outstanding quality of the Chilean wine range.
The jury committee voted the 2005 vintage Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon as the best wine of the ESPIRITU DE CHILE range and honored the wine with a gold medal. The Merlot, Carmenére and Sauvignon Blanc of this premium line of wines received silver medals. Within the classic program category, silver medals were awarded to the Shiraz-Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé and again to the Carmenére.
Wines of the Gran Reserva quality designation represent the top end of the ESPIRUTU DE CHILE range. The gold medal-winning, dark red Cabernet Sauvignon captivates with its dense and seamlessly harmonious structure and unites aromas of currant, wild berries and elders, rounded off with a finishing touch of vanilla. Having aged in oak barrels, this distinctive wine displays an elegant note of wood and a long-lasting finish.
2007 marked the fourth year for the AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge. This largest international wine contest in Austria takes place under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and the Environment.
In a blind taste test, 300 independent enologists and wine experts sample and test nearly 6,000 wines from throughout the world. Unlike other international wine competitions this size, the AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge conducts its blind taste tests anonymously in single cabins, thus ensuring an utmost degree of objectivity.
The presentation of results and the award ceremonies will be held in the presence of more than 2,500 invited wine experts and wine lovers in the course of the "Wine Gala Night 2007" in the ballroom of Vienna's City Hall on October 30,2007.
