Two Silver Medals for Espíritu de Chile
10.02.09
Premium Select International Wine Challenge 2009
Espíritu de Chile once again proved its high quality at a renowned wine competition. At the German Premium Select Wine Challenge 2009 two Gran Reserva wines were awarded a silver medal.
The 2006 Merlot and the 2005 Carmenére of this premium line of wines both received a silver medal and were honoured with three stars. Like in many previous wine competitions Espíritu de Chile achieved the new acknowledgements for excellent wine quality at an outstanding price/quality ratio.
Wines of the Gran Reserva quality designation represent the top end of the Espíritu de Chile range. Both wines originate from the Curico Valley. The dark-red Espíritu de Chile Carmenčre impressed the jury with its intense aromas of berries and a touch of vanilla. The wine is rich and full bodied with fine, smooth tannins. On the finish there is some spice and espresso.
The awarded Merlot of the Gran Reserva range convinced with its pleasant fruit and well-balanced tannin structure; its delicate aromas of vanilla which are supported by hints of cherry, chocolate and mint; as well as its extra finesse which was achieved by maturation in barrique barrels.
The results will be published in the March issue of the well known German wine magazine “Selection”, which will also be handed out at the Prowein fair.
